Chargeable weight calculator

Enter dimensions and gross weight to get the volumetric weight and the chargeable weight your freight will be rated on, for air, express, road and sea.

How it works

Freight is priced on whichever weight is larger.

Carriers charge on the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight, so a light but bulky consignment costs more than its scale weight suggests. Enter dimensions, weight and quantity to see both figures for air (1:6000), courier (1:5000), road (1:3000) and sea LCL, where one cubic metre counts as 1,000 kg.

What is the formula?

Length × width × height in centimetres, divided by the carrier’s factor, gives volumetric kilograms. For air that factor is 6000, so a 100 × 80 × 60 cm crate is 80 kg volumetric; if it weighs 50 kg on the scale, you pay for 80.

Why is courier charged at 5000 instead of 6000?

Express integrators use a denser factor, which makes light, bulky parcels dearer by courier than by air cargo. Above a few hundred kilograms it is usually worth comparing the two.

Can I reduce the chargeable weight?

Often, by packing tighter or crating to the cargo rather than to a standard box. Rockit provides export packing, and we quote on the packed dimensions so there are no surprises at the airline.
