Container tracking

Enter a container, booking or bill of lading number to see the current status and location of your shipment.

How it works

Read a container number before you chase it.

Every container number is four letters and seven digits. The first three letters are the owner code, the fourth is the equipment category (U for a freight container), then a six-digit serial and a final check digit. The checker validates that digit, names the line from the owner prefix and sends you to that carrier’s own tracking.

How is the check digit calculated?

Each letter is given a number (A is 10, then counting up but skipping 11, 22 and 33), each of the first ten characters is multiplied by 2 to the power of its position, the total is divided by 11 and the remainder is the check digit — a remainder of 10 counts as 0. It catches almost every mistyped number before you contact a carrier.

The number is valid but the carrier shows nothing. Why?

The box may be a leased unit shipped under another line’s bill of lading, or it may not have been gated in yet. Track by bill of lading or booking number on the carrier page instead, or send us the number and we will find it.

Can I track by bill of lading?

Yes. Every carrier page we link to accepts a bill of lading or booking number as well as a container number.

Where next

Container arriving in Egypt?

Clearance takes about three days for ocean imports when our own licensed brokers handle it. Pre-clearing before arrival keeps the box moving.
